Major Qualifying Projects

The Capstone Project of Undergraduate Studies

Every undergraduate student at WPI is required to complete a Major Qualifying Project (MQP)before graduation. Working in teams of three to five, students solve real problems for real businesses.

School of Business students are expected to deliver genuine, measurable value, as clients pay thousands of dollars to have students address their problems. And the return on this investment can be remarkable: one organization saved $35,000 a day as a result of a project. While not every project realizes such substantial savings, it is not uncommon to hear of projects saving clients tens of thousands of dollars each week.

But it’s not just the clients who benefit from project work. The MQP has launched countless careers.
