About the Department
Imparting an Education that Extends Beyond the Classroom
In the Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) department, you’ll find classes that are just the right size and one-on-one mentoring by faculty, in a curriculum emphasizing core principles of civil and environmental engineering. Our students get more than a CEE education, though. Their coursework prepares them to tackle some of the most pressing civil and environmental engineering problems of our time from all angles.
Research is part of our lifeblood. CEE students are highly encouraged to partner with faculty to conduct hands-on research that addresses engineering challenges and promotes sustainable design, with a foundation in civil engineering concepts. And these partnerships extend outside our classrooms and laboratories. Our faculty, staff, and alumni create a community who are actively engaged with students and each other. Collaboration, caring, and teamwork are part of the curriculum.
As an undergraduate, you can earn a bachelor of science in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering. At the graduate level, we offer a number of degrees: master of science (MS) and PhD in Civil Engineering; MS in Environmental Engineering and Construction Project Management; master of engineering (ME), a practice-oriented degree, with Environmental Engineering and Master Builder concentrations; and graduate and advanced graduate certificates. Some graduate courses are available via streaming video through WPI’s Advanced Distance Learning Network.
