Career Outlook

Traditionally graduates from architectural engineering programs have found employment in the building construction market (e.g., the planning, design construction and operations of buildings). According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment is primarily offered by multidisciplinary engineering and architectural firms (51 percent of total employment), government agencies (27 percent) and construction contracting firms (11 percent ). The Bureau projects employment increases of 38 percent, 8 percent, and 14 percent respectively in these sectors in the next seven years. Notwithstanding the current construction recession, the job market for graduates looks promising, considering baby boomer retirement and the short supply of architectural engineers from accredited schools.
