Fundamentals of Engineering Exam
The first step to becoming a licensed professional engineer: passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, offered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). Licensure ensures public safety by requiring practicing consultants to demonstrate qualifications based on education, experience, and examinations, including the FE exam. Becoming licensed benefits engineers by allowing them to advance their careers and offer consulting services.
All Civil Engineering majors are strongly encouraged to take the FE exam, offered every October and April, in their senior year. You can find the exam schedule on the NCEES website.
For registration information, please visit the Professional Credential Services Inc. (PCS) website. WPI’s Corporate and Professional Education also offers a Fundamentals of Engineering Review once a year to help prepare for the test.
