Richard Emberley (BS & MS, WPI) to study at University of Queensland in Australia
Unique opportunity to build on his WPI education in structural fire behavior
Richard Emberley (BS CE 2011, MS CE/FPE May 2013) will be starting graduate work in July 2013 at the University of Queensland. He has received a unique opportunity to work with Dr. José Torero in the Civil Engineering department, focusing on structural fire behavior. The Department is providing him a full scholarship for his studies. Rick describes this opportunity as a “once in a lifetime opportunity to study and work with the leader in structural fire engineering in the world as his only student.” In addition, the University of Queensland is beginning a unique Career Advantage Program this year for PhD candidates, with a focus on research innovation, translation and commercialization.
Rick credits his WPI education with providing him so many great prospects. In particular, he is very appreciative of the support and guidance he has received from Professor Len Albano (CEE), Professor Tahar El-Korchi (CEE) and Dr. Jonathan Barnett (Olsson Fire & Risk; formerly FPE at WPI). Through these wonderful advisors, Rick is now seeing his dreams come true – in Australia!
