Help Meet the Challenges of Sustainable Design

Your support for this highly visible project furthers an international mission to explore energy conservation, while advancing WPI’s educational model of project-based learning. Under a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of Energy and the China National Energy Administration, WPI-led Team BEMANY will be among the first Solar Decathlon participants to exhibit their projects in China for judging—and public viewing by an estimated 500,000 visitors.

WPI has lead the multi-university team as it collaborated on an innovative home design with a modular composite structure, advanced phase-change materials (PCMs), and a passive cooling and heating system.

In-kind donations of materials, as well as funds and expertise, helped the team construct and test their Solatrium in Worcester, then ship it to Datong, China. Some team members will be sent to reassemble the home for the week of exhibition and judging.
