About the Department
Within WPI’s Chemical Engineering Department are some of the brightest minds in the field, working on cutting-edge research that can help improve lives, address concerns that face humanity, and solve tough problems. Using fuel cells as a renewable source of energy and solutions from nature to help solve health concerns are just two areas of groundbreaking discovery you’ll find here.
We work hard to shape young scientific minds in a familial, friendly, tight-knit atmosphere. You’ll be made to feel welcome from the very first day, forming strong bonds with your professors and fellow students that will benefit you professionally and personally.
Against the backdrop of world-class facilities—which include Goddard Hall and the Life Sciences and Bioengineering Center at Gateway Park—you'll work in interdisciplinary teams that combine the best of each discipline to innovate and create, earning hands-on experience you'll take with you long after you leave WPI.
This learning happens in the lab, in the classroom, and through our innovative, hands-on projects program, a hallmark of WPI. Our students travel both around the world and around the corner to work on solutions to some of society’s most perplexing problems, completing a Humanities and Arts Project, an Interactive Qualifying Project, and a Major Qualifying Project before graduation.
