Abigail Charest Receives American Water Resources Association National Scholarship

Funding for the enhancement of education in water resources

Abigail Charest, PhD Candidate in Civil Engineering, has been awarded a 2013 Richard A. Herbert Memorial Scholarship from the American Water Resources Association. The scholarship fund is used for the enhancement of education in water resources. The fund is named after Richard A. Herbert, a champion for water resources education, who passed away in 1994. Two scholarships are available each year, one to a full‐time undergraduate student and one to a full‐time graduate student enrolled in a program relating to water resources.

Abby received her BS in Environmental Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1998. She then worked as an Environmental Engineer for Earth Tech (AECOM) from 2000 – 2006, and a Lead Project Engineer for Wright-Pierce from 2006 – 2009. While working, she earned her MS in Environmental Engineering at WPI. She is currently pursuing her PhD at WPI, researching surrogates for viral pathogen occurrence in water systems and fate through treatment. While at WPI, she has been supported as a Research Assistant, Arvid Anderson Fellow and Koerner Fellow. She anticipates completing her doctorate in 2014.
