Student Resources

Organizations

Student branches of ECE organizations and a professional society student chapter at WPI are very active. Student organizations and professional societies provide important resources for students, such as networking opportunities, career information, and the chance to spend time with people who share a passion for electrical and computer engineering.  After graduation, one of the most important functions these groups serve is the dissemination of technical knowledge that helps ensure engineers remain abreast of recent discoveries and technical advances in this complex and ever-changing field. Joining one of these groups is a positive step in making a commitment to lifelong learning.

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)

With more than 350,000 members, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers is the world's largest technical professional society. WPI’s IEEE student chapter manages the undergraduate lounge on the first floor of Atwater-Kent Laboratories, and hosts department-wide events such as information sessions, guest speakers, the annual spark party, and barbecues.

(These resources are primarily intended for WPI students, faculty and staff.)

Women in Electrical and Computer Engineering (WECE)
Women in Electrical and Computer Engineering offers women students a chance to meet and discuss academics, employment, and other opportunities in ECE. Members regularly sponsor soldering, resume building, and mentoring workshops.

Eta Kappa Nu (HKN)
Eta Kappa Nu is the international honor society for students in electrical and computer engineering. In addition to honoring outstanding students in the department, HKN organizes a number of activities, awards, and scholarships. Students exhibiting the necessary qualities of scholarship, leadership, and character are approached for membership in either their junior or senior year of study.

Tau Beta Pi (TBP)
Exceptional students in the ECE department are also eligible to become elected members of Tau Beta Pi the international honor society for all engineering students. Students exhibiting the necessary qualities of scholarship, leadership, and character are approached for membership in either their junior or senior year of study.

Students may also choose to become involved in the many other student organizations on campus. View a comprehensive list of clubs and organizations where you can get involved.
