Communication systems and networks have changed almost every aspect of our lives over the last 20 years. In my opinion, an electrical engineering degree provides an ideal background... including calculus, probability, and linear algebra, as well as the engineering and problem solving skills necessary to transfer new ideas to practical systems. Data and network security have become of utmost importance in today's highly interconnected world. Embedded systems security is a great research area at the core of any secure cyber-infrastructure, with unique challenges: Besides classical problems found in security, systems must meet tough constraints on power consumption, interoperability and cost. At the same time, adversaries may have physical access to the system, allowing them to perform a whole new class of attacks. Read more...

I see my students as budding engineers, as future colleagues. I make a point to develop in them the following basic skills: to study effectively, to respect society and the environment, to take responsibility for their ideas, to think a problem through, and then to clearly communicate that problem. These skills are tools for a lifetime. Read more...

When students ask me for advice on what kind of problems to pursue, I advise them to follow what they are passionate about.
