Kurt Ferreira, PhD Candidate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been awarded the 2010 WPI Teaching Assistant of the Year Award.

Faculty in ECE describe Kurt as one of the best teaching assistants who has ever worked in the ECE Department. They say that he knows the theory like and experienced professor, is open-minded and patient with students, and is a person of integrity, sensitivity, and humility. They describe how he handles all of the details, completes preparation for labs and help sessions, and how he has helped make the other teaching assistants in ECE even better. Kurt communicates a respect for students and respect for WPI in everything he does; he is “quick and kind” in all of his interactions with undergraduates (and Faculty). One faculty member said that “in my long career of 41 years in academia, covering three universities on three continents, I have never crossed paths with a better teaching assistant.”

Student comments on evaluations are just as positive, if not more positive. They say that Kurt is “tops,” “simply the best” and that “Kurt…only gets better each term.” One student said that “We should be proud that we have such students.”

WPI is proud to have Kurt Ferreira as a graduate, graduate student, and a teaching assistant, and we are proud to recognize his contributions to WPI with the 2010 Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award.
