Collaborative WPI/USNA Team Receives Funding from ONR to Conduct SDR Research
A collaborative team consisting of researchers from both WPI and the United States Naval Academy (USNA) has just received financial support from the Office of Naval Research (ONR). The $198,474 grant is in support of their efforts to devise and implement on software-defined radio (SDR) platforms a collection of adaptive digital signal processing algorithms for enabling robust communications in spectrally impaired scenarios. This sponsored 18-month project, entitled: "BLISS: A Blind Spectrum Separation Approach for Jamming-Resistant Communications" will be led by Dr. Alexander M. Wyglinski, an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and involves close collaborations with Dr. Christopher R. Anderson, an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the USNA. This project will also support and contribute to the doctoral dissertation research of Mr. Srikanth Pagadarai, a WPI ECE Ph.D. candidate under the supervision of Professor Wyglinski. The ultimate goal of this research is to devise signal processing algorithms on SDR platforms that will ultimately translate into saving the lives of both U.S. and allied forces operating in hostile deployment zones.
