Michael Dolan, BS

Degree earned from WPI:
BS, Chemical Engineering

Additional degree:
MBA

Why did you choose WPI?
Hands on, small class size.

How did your experiences at WPI prepare you for graduate school?
WPI taught me how to work hard, be productive and efficient with my time, and to think through problems on a system-wide level. These are good skills for graduate study.

Present job title and employer:
Senior vice president, ExxonMobil Corporation

How did your studies at WPI prepare you for working in your field?
My WPI degree has been helpful in my entire career, as our industry is very much a chemical engineering-based one.

How did WPI's philosophy of Theory and Practice, and working with teams, prepare you for facing real-world challenges in the workplace or graduate school?
Being well-grounded in theory, but with a practical orientation, is what makes an engineer successful in industry. Team-based work is also essential, as problems are usually multidisciplinary in the industrial environment.
