Message from the Dean

As the inaugural Dean of Engineering, I’ve been consistently impressed with the quality and engagement of the students, faculty, staff, and alumni at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). Poised at the forefront of education and research, WPI has long embodied the innovative nature needed to succeed in producing the finest engineering talent. Lehr und Kunst–theory and practice–is the motto we live by and apply to all we do.

WPI specializes in educating the whole student. Our Project Centers across the world offer a global experience in which students can make a real impact within local communities and apply their interdisciplinary skill sets to a wide variety of engineering and social problems. The various organizations around campus create a community of well-rounded and engaged individuals. The WPI Plan provides hands-on learning opportunities and the highest caliber of academic studies.

Our faculty is made up of world class teachers and researchers. Their cutting-edge breakthroughs in areas such as medical technology, first responder devices, and sustainability will surely change the face of society. Their level of interaction with our students and engagement with the university make WPI an exemplary institution to learn, teach, and live. WPI alumni, industry partners, and friends help us remain an innovative and connected institution–one focused on problem solving at the most important levels.

A top-ranked university by U.S. News and World Report, and named one the Fiske Guide’s “10 Engineering Schools that Should Be on Your Radar,” WPI is an exceptional university. As the third-oldest technological university in the nation, we strive for excellence at all levels. I hope you will share my excitement as we continue to bring recognition and prominence to WPI Engineering.
