Professor Hoffman has interests in biomechanical engineering and rehabilitation engineering. He and his students enjoy developing devices which assist people with disabilities. He teaches project-based design courses in which teams, usually made up of four students, not only design devices but also build and evaluate them. Professor Hoffman‘s research highlights include rehabilitation robotics, which is the design and development of robotic devices to assist persons with disabilities. A patent will be issued for one of his team’s devices in 2012.
