Wanli Zhao
- Assistant Professor, School of Business
Sound understanding of finance issues plays an important role in business success. Finance issues also relate to our personal life, from taxes to investment to retirement planning. I enjoy teaching finance because it enables people make better decisions and helps them advance in their careers. In the School of Business at WPI, our mission is to help technologically savvy people to be business savvy leaders and successful entrepreneurs. Finance knowledge and skills really complement their technological background in the sense that they can develop their technical know-how into financially successful businesses. Our students have high expectations and excellent quantitative skills that enable them to understand and absorb the materials in a speedier manner and make the overall teaching experience joyful. My research focuses on important issues in corporate governance. One area of my attention is insider trading, which recently received a significant amount of attention from the government and the media. Another area I enjoy doing research on is boards of directors. I focus on director attributes that may improve corporate information environment and monitoring, such as director diversity and human capital.
