Research & Facilities

Groundbreaking research is a cornerstone of WPI’s fire protection engineering department. The FPE faculty enjoys hard-earned international recognition in a wide range of research and practical specialties. And by taking part, students begin to tap into their most innovative selves, helping improve the safety of our world through new or improved solutions to firesafety problems, by developing new products, services, or design approaches, and by influencing regulatory policy.

Step into any of our cutting-edge facilities and you’ll encounter first-rate research by faculty and by our students. FPE students have the opportunity to conduct both course-based and independent research in WPI’s state-of-the-art Fire Science Laboratory, Combustion Laboratory, Fire Modeling Laboratory, Wet Lab, and more.
