Hometown:

Billerica, Mass.

Degrees earned from WPI:

MS, Fire Protection Engineering

Graduate degrees if from an institution other than WPI:

PhD, Mechanical Engineering, Northwestern University

How and why did you choose to attend WPI?

The director of WPI's FPE program visited my undergraduate college and spoke to the students about the opportunities in the fire protection engineering field. In that year most of the engineering seniors were having a hard time finding a job. I was fascinated by the fact that WPI’s FPE program had more requests from employers than it had graduates. I was also interested in having a paid internship since I didn’t have the resources to pay for grad school. I signed up for WPI in the summer and I received a paid internship after my first semester. I came back after one year to finish my MS degree and I have been happily employed ever since.

Current employer:

U.S. Government

Job title:

Senior Fire Research Engineer

Did your studies at WPI helped prepare you for your current job?

My current job is directly related to the classes that I took at WPI.

How did WPI’s philosophy of Theory and Practice and working with teams prepare you for facing challenges in the workplace or graduate school?

I still remember working on the projects at WPI. I recall being challenged by trying to come up with solutions that other groups overlooked. Overall, WPI projects and working in teams was a great opportunity.
