IQP Assessments
Recent IQP assessment activity has taken two forms:
-
In the summer of 2007, nine faculty members with experience in IQP advising read 81 of the 148 projects completed on campus during academic year 2006-2007. They used an evaluation instrument to gather data on these projects. The instrument was based on evaluation instruments used for IQP reviews in 2004 and 2000 (to gather longitudinal data) with some variation to gather additional information related to the Learning Outcomes for the IQP adopted by the faculty in the spring of 2007.
The data gathered from these 81 project reports is summarized in a report available to faculty Achievement of IQP Learning Outcomes as Indicated in 2007 IQP Review of Projects Completed On Campus . Kent Rissmiller, April 21, 2008.These data were also summarized in a presentation given to the faculty on April 21, 2008. That presentation is available in PowerPoint 2007 Assessment of IQP Learning Outcomes: On-Campus IQPs-Problems and Solutions, K. Rissmiller, April 21, 2008. In addition to the summary data from the 2007 assessment, this presentation also includes some comparison data from an earlier review of projects completed off-campus. It also includes some suggestions for some "easy" things that faculty can do to improve IQ outcomes (see below).
-
Secondly, beginning in late December 2007, students completing IQPs have been asked to also complete the WPI Student Report on IQP Learning and Advising. Preliminary summary data regarding students' learning during the project shows impressive results for the IQP overall (both on and Off campus sites combined). The data from 310 student reports gathered as of May 29, 2008 are presented in summary form. Summary Data For All Advisors Regarding Student Learning in IQP.
