IMGD Professor of Practice Keith Zizza recently provided consulting services for the new version of The Oregon Trail video game. This classic educational video game, first released for use on mainframes as a teaching tool in the early 1970s, marked its 40th Anniversary Edition with its release for the Nintendo Wii and 3DS platforms. True to the original, the player assumes the role of a wagon leader guiding his party of settlers from Independence, Missouri, to Oregon's Willamette Valley over the Oregon Trail via a Conestoga wagon in 1848.
Keith provided audio technology research for the project, as well as real-time playback strategies, file compression techniques, and virtual instrument sequencing.
