IMGD Grad Student Takes 2nd Place in Interdisciplinary Category for GRAD 2014 Competition

Graduate students Tianhe Wang, Xin Wu, Yingying Chen, and Yuhuang Xie took 2nd place in the Master's level Interdisciplinary category at the GRAD 2014: Innovation Exchange competition. Wang's project entitle "Defying Disaster" was advised by Dean O'Donnell. A total of 65 master's and PhD candidates displayed posters describing their research in the finals of this poster celebration. The finalists were selected at an all-day open poster session on March 19th. Judges chose the winners on April 20th. All first-place winners received $500 cash awards; second-place winners received $200 awards; third-place winners received certificates.

Defying Disaster is a serious game with the features of an adventure game, aiming to teach people professional knowledge and training skills about preparing for and dealing with disasters in an immersive and interactive environment. Wang is currently in contact with disaster preparedness experts at the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA).
