Don is responsible for the overall management of library services and has oversight of the library’s budget, personnel, and general policies. He also continues to serve as Associate University Librarian and head of the Collections and Systems Management department. Don joined the library staff in 1976 and has served in a variety of roles.

Joan provides administrative support for the Dean of Library Services. She is a member of the team that regularly reviews fiction and nonfiction books to provide current bestsellers for the WPI community.

Access Services

Access Services oversees the following services: borrowing, course reserves, interlibrary loan, document delivery, and resource sharing with other libraries. We also are responsible for seeing that all items are returned to the shelves, oversee Tech Suite Reservations, and monitor the building for safety. Debbie administers and directs the operation of the Access Services Department. She monitors policies and procedures related to borrowing items, resource sharing, and room reservations. She is the liaison with Campus Police regarding building security. She also oversees the library student staff program. Debbie is an avid backpacker and hiker and loves to travel and spend time with her family.

Robin is part of the Access Services team. She supervises student information desk employees and provides research assistance. In her spare time, Robin enjoys reading print books as well as e-books on her Color Nook, listening to ‘80s music, and spending time with her husband and two young children.

Judy oversees and processes interlibrary loan requests for WPI-owned material that is sent to other libraries and institutions worldwide.  She is responsible for the maintenance of stacks and supervises students in the areas of stacks and interlibrary loan.  Judy also assists at the Information Desk.  Judy is an avid reader who loves to sew and knit.

  • Access Services Coordinator

Tressa coordinates and processes interlibrary loan borrowing requests for the WPI community. She is also the technical lead for the department. Tressa assists in all areas of Access Services with a focus on student employment. Tressa is a graduate of nearby College of the Holy Cross and has previously worked at the Worcester Art Museum.

Collections and Systems Management 

Collections and Systems Management acquires, describes and maintains the materials and resources that the library purchases to support teaching, learning and research at WPI. This includes print and electronic books, DVDs, online databases, and print and electronic journals. The department administers the systems, tools and other resources that connect students, faculty and staff to the collections, including the Summon discovery service, the library catalog system, link resolver and journal portal, and the proxy service. Collections and Systems Management is responsible for the licensing of electronic resources and systems and manages the library budget for collections and electronic services.

Don leads the library systems and digital services group, and directs the technology-based functions of the library such as the integrated library and digital asset management systems, discovery service, proxy services, and link resolver. He oversees the electronic resources budget and operations and supports the Dean of Library Services in budget and other administrative areas, particularly in the licensing and management of electronic resources. Don is a long-time member of the library staff who has experienced the evolution of technology in libraries. In their spare time he and his wife Janet enjoy reading, walking, and travelling.

Karen joins the Collections and Systems Management team as the new Collections Assessment and Development Librarian. A graduate of the unique program at St. John’s College and with an MSLS from Catholic University, Karen brings extensive experience with library collections and services to WPI. Her career in US libraries was followed by twelve years in Greece, first at the American College of Thessaloniki where she was the founding director of the Bissell Library, and then at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens where she was the Head Librarian of the Blegen Library. A native New Englander, Karen is happy to be back in this part of the world and looks forward to working with students, faculty, and staff to build and maintain a library collection that meets their needs. Elenore assists with the cataloging of new books, IQP/MQP reports, and audio/visual materials. She keeps the library catalog up-to-date by removing items that are no longer current. She checks scanned IQP/MQP reports for accuracy and completeness, and assists with metadata creation for digital collections. She receives current print periodicals and claims lost and damaged issues with vendors and is responsible for coordinating binding of theses and journals.  El loves spending time with her granddaughters Elizabeth and Megan.

Jackie works with faculty and library vendors to make sure requested material is received promptly. She places orders, processes invoices, and catalogs new library material. She also maintains accuracy and currency of holdings information in the library catalog, updating bibliographic information when necessary. She assists in library promotional and instructional efforts by creating videos, posters and flyers. Jackie is a member of the library’s Exhibits and Events Committee, and also serves on various other committees, as needed. She enjoys spending time outside and taking digital photographs of nature.  She enjoys kayaking, and visits the ocean year round.

  • Assistant Director for Curation, Preservation, and Archives

Jess coordinates digital collections development and institutional repository services for the library and WPI community partners and stakeholders. As a member of the Digital Commonwealth Board of Directors and as an instructor for the Northeast Document Conservation Center and the Society of American Archivists (with her husband Greg), Jess actively advocates for and educates on digital creation, curation, and use topics large and small. She is a graduate of Tufts University (Go Jumbos!) and Simmons Graduate School of Library and Information Science. When she’s not thinking in bits and bytes, Jess spends time with her family and friends, tackles gluten-free baking challenges, and dabbles in painting and photography.

  • Preservation Librarian

Kathy manages library preservation and conservation programs, and curates the rare book and art collections. This includes repairing books from the general collections, conserving rare items from Special Collections & Archives, preserving the university’s art collections, and cataloging rare books and art. She also prepares materials for exhibitions or loans, and is a resource to the community for information on the care of books and other conservation issues. When she is not rebinding books, Kathy does costuming for her daughter’s ballet school and plays bass for the blues band Liquid Fuel.

Tom assists students, faculty, and staff in conducting research through individual, team, and classroom based consultations. He is a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College (B.A), Simmons College (M.L.I.S.), and the University of Massachusetts-Amherst (M.A.).  Tom is also a commissioned officer in the Army National Guard. Previously, Tom was the Pound Project Librarian at the Harvard Law Library, where he supervised the relocation of over 70,000 items to an offsite storage facility. He also served as a Teaching Assistant at UMass-Amherst, instructing students in classes ranging from the History of Baseball to the History of Modern Latin America.  He enjoys traveling with his wife, hiking with his dog, fishing, and baking bread.

Rebecca coordinates programs for first year students, such as Great Problem Seminars and Insight groups. She serves on the library's Research and Instruction team to coordinate, design, promote, implement, and assess instruction and outreach programs for first-year students. Rebecca provides library instruction, programming, and research consultations for students, faculty, and staff. Rebecca also loves black coffee, dark chocolate, and sharing pictures and stories about her pet rabbit Mr. Ford.
