About the Department

Preparing Students to Take on Technological and Societal Challenges

With a focus on scholarship and research, WPI’s Mechanical Engineering department offers a collaborative environment in which students work closely with faculty on projects and research. As they pursue their degrees, students are challenged academically and supported by their advisors, peers, and the entire WPI community.

Projects and research are critical components of a mechanical engineering education at WPI. The Interactive Qualifying Project (IQP) and Major Qualifying Project (MQP) can be conducted in the US or at one of our worldwide Project Centers.

Mechanical Engineering students acquire a solid foundation in the engineering sciences—along with practical, problem-solving skills. This gives them an edge in their careers and in developing solutions for real-world issues.
