About Manufacturing Engineering
Bringing Many Areas into Focus with Real-World Practicality
Manufacturing Engineering (MFE) is a multidisciplinary program with courses available in manufacturing, industrial, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering, as well as management and computer science. Students may focus on a specific area (robotics, CAD/CAM, artificial intelligence, materials processing, etc.), or retain a more comprehensive view through interdisciplinary studies.
Included in the MFE program are opportunities for an undergraduate concentration or minor, along with graduate programs through the PhD level. The ever-evolving range of technologies offered at WPI allows students to design a course of study with guidance from experts who lead the way in industrial evolution.
Students are encouraged to deeply investigate subjects of interest to them through the WPI project structure, locally or at centers around the world. Through this research, they may discover information and techniques to advance production capabilities sustainably—in terms of longevity, financial fitness, and planetary suitability—while gaining an understanding of manufacturing’s global influence. Many benefit throughout their careers from the hands-on experience gained in their student project efforts.
