Ciro Stefano

Lieutenant Colonel Stefano assumed command of the Bay State Battalion on 15 July 2011. He serves as the Professor of Military Science, WPI’s Army ROTC program at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA. He is an expert trainer and leader, having received the Army’s highest award for leadership, the General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award. He comes to WPI with twenty eight years of experience, having served at every level of command and staff assignments in the Army, from Platoon Sergeant to Chief Warrant Officer to Battalion Commander. His assignments include several operational assignments around the globe and four tours of combat including Desert Storm, Afghanistan and Iraq. Overseas assignments include the Republic of Korea, Germany, Central America, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Afghanistan. Most recently he served as the Executive Officer to the General responsible for all operations in the United States Army Europe Headquarters. He is an Airborne Ranger and Senior Army Aviator rated to fly the UH-1 Huey, the UH-60 Blackhawk and CH-47 Chinook helicopters. He also holds all of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ratings one can earn as a civilian aviator. He has earned multiple degrees in Aeronautical Sciences and an MBA. Finally, he is fully fluent in the German language and has a high degree of understanding of European and Middle Eastern cultures. The love of his life is his wife Katie and he adores his two Bulldogs.

Major Kazim Mohammed joined the Bay State Battalion on 13 JUN 2011. Major Mohammed has a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and a Masters Degree in Human Resource Management from Webster University in St. Louis, MO. Major Mohammed’s previous assignment was as an Assignments Officer at Human Resource Center of Excellence (HRCOE), FT. Knox, KY. Major Mohammed’s military education includes: Adjutant General Officer Basic Course, AG Captains Careers Course and Intermediate Level Education (ILE). Major Mohammed’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon.

Michael Tiso

MAJ Michael E. Tiso is the Battalion Executive Officer for the WPI ROTC Bay State Battalion. He was born and raised in Mt. Tremper, NY and has served in the U.S. Army since 2001. His initial assignment was with the 40th Signal Battalion at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. In 2003 he deployed with his platoon to Ash Shuabai Port and Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. Major Tiso deployed again in 2007 to Camp Adder, Iraq with the 35th Signal Battalion as the Assistant Operations Officer. In 2011, Major Tiso deployed to Gardez, Afghanistan as a member of an Advisor Team from the 98th Training Division (Reserve) as part of the NATO Training Mission - Afghanistan. During his time in the Army Reserves, Major Tiso has worked at General Cable Corp. as a Production Planning Coordinator, Process Engineer and Lean Manufacturing Coordinator. Major Tiso's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (w/OLC), Army Commendation Medal (w/OLC), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary/Service Medals and the Army Parachutists Badge. Major Tiso is married to the former Ms. Deanna Partlow of Northfield, VT. They have two children, a son Avery, 5, and daughter Jillian, 3.

Carson Williams

  • Operations Officer/Assistant Professor of Military Science

1LT Carson Williams is the Battalion Operations Officer and Assistant Professor of Military Science. He is responsible for the coordination and planning that is necessary in order to conduct operations within the WPI AROTC Battalion. He is also the primary instructor and mentor for the MS1 Cadets during their first year in Army ROTC. 1LT Williams commissioned from the United States Military Academy in May of 2010 where he competed as the starting quarterback for the Black Knights during the 2006, 2007, and 2008 football seasons. His previous assignments include being an Athletic Intern for United States Military Academy Preparatory School where he served as the Offensive Coordinator for the football team and a one year tour in South Korea where he served as the Alpha Battery Executive Officer in the 1-15th FA BN at Camp Casey. Outside of the office, 1LT Williams enjoys spending time with friends and family on the lake, participating in athletic competitions, reading, exploring new cuisines, and learning new hobbies.

Raphael Howard

  • Assistant Professor of Military Science

Mr. Howard is an instructor of military science at WPI. He is a WPI Army ROTC graduate class 2007 with a BS in Psychology with a concentration in Women’s studies and minor in Middle East Studies from Worcester State College. He has also completed the Afghan Immersion Course of study at University of Nebraska, Omaha. He has 10 years of enlisted service in the Mass Army National Guard as Infantry. He has 5 years of service in the Army Reserve as a Signal officer and Civil Affairs officer. His military deployments include: Bosnia Herzegovina, Guantanamo Bay Cuba, New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, Iraq, and two tours in Afghanistan. His military decorations include the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Joint Service Commendation Medal.

Evelyn LaCroix

  • Human Resoures Technician

Evelyn LaCroix joined the Bay State Battalion in July of 2008. She serves as a Human Resources Technician. Prior to her current position, she worked at US Army Cadet Command First Brigade, Fort Devens, as a Human Resources Specialist Mrs. LaCroix has worked for Army ROTC for almost thirty years.
