New Faculty Orientation
New Faculty Orientation sessions in 2012 are scheduled for August 16, 17, and 20, and will continue with thematic luncheons on Wednesdays during A-term. Below is a schedule for the initial “arrival week” events in August. Agenda details will be sent to participants by early August. We anticipate that you will find these sessions helpful in becoming acclimated to WPI and in developing a network of new colleagues.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 16, 11:00AM-4:00PM and 4:00-5:30PM
Following welcoming remarks from President Berkey, join us for lunch and an introduction to the WPI Plan, student and faculty panels, and an overview of faculty roles and evaluation processes from the Provost and the Committee on Tenure and Academic Freedom. The afternoon will conclude with a wine and cheese reception-- an opportunity to socialize with new colleagues, the administrative group, and department heads.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 17, 10:00AM-NOON and NOON-2:00 PM
The morning workshop will focus on Teaching in the 7-Week Term. Some experienced colleagues will share some of their strategies, and we’ll address some essential nuts-and-bolts of delivering courses at WPI. During the lunch that follows, you’ll meet key staff in student support and development services, and be introduced to WPI’s academic honesty policy and the campus judicial system.
MONDAY, AUGUST 20, NOON-2:00PM
This lunch will be hosted by research librarians and staff from the Technology for Teaching & Learning group within the Academic Technology Center, all of whom serve as important resources for faculty teaching and scholarship.
The New Faculty Mentoring Program provides additional opportunities to address questions that arise during the early years of being a faculty member at WPI.
