Application Requirements

Applicants to all campus-based graduate degree programs must submit the following:

• Completed online application You can apply at any time; we admit students year-round.  Applications for admission to the Spring semester should be submitted by October 1st to guarantee consideration, and applications for the Fall semester should be submitted by January 1st if you are seeking TA or RA funding
• Official transcripts for all post-secondary colleges or universities
• Application fee of $70 (online by credit card, or by check or money order payable to WPI)
  Application Fees Notes and Exceptions:
  • Current WPI undergraduates and alumni: Fee is waived for current WPI undergraduates and alumni
• Graduate Record Exam (GRE) (varies by Department) WPI's Institution Code is 3969
• Letters of Recommendation:
  Three letters of recommendation from individuals who can comment on your qualifications for pursuing graduate study are required.  Please invite your recommenders to submit their letters electronically via the online application
  Letters of Recommendation Notes & Exceptions:
  • Social Science & Policy Studies: Letters of Recommendation are not required for students applying for a certificate program. Letters of Recommendation are required for all other applicants.

TOEFL/IELTS

• The test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing Systems (IELTS), or the Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic) is required for International students who come from countries where English is not their first language.
  • Have the scores sent to WPI (school code: 3969).
    The minimum scores for admission are:
    TOEFL: 223 (computer based test)
    563 (paper-based test)
    84 (internet-based test)
    IELTS: 7.0 overall band score with no sub-score lower than 6.5
• TOEFL/IELTS Notes and Exceptions:
  • Applicants who have completed two years of full-time study in a college or university in the U.S., the U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, or the Anglophone regions of Africa, Canada, or the Caribbean, within five years of matriculating at WPI are not required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores
  • School of Business: TOEFL/IELTS is required for all applicants whose native language is not English and who have not earned a degree from an English-instruction college or university
  • Higher scores are required for Teaching Assistants.
  • Scores are valid for two years from the test date.
