Solving Real-World Problems through Innovative Research
The goal of the IGERT program at WPI is to produce a diverse group of future leaders who are able to translate basic discovery research into innovative solutions to unmet medical needs in our global society.
WPI’s unique IGERT program focuses on biofabrication research – a field that is expected to grow exponentially in the US, and around the globe, over the next several decades.
WPI’s IGERT fellows will be uniquely prepared to be leaders in this evolving field. They will learn to think like entrepreneurs, and to approach their science and engineering work with a greater understanding of what it takes to move a discovery or technological advance from the laboratory to the marketplace.
The WPI Advantage
WPI has a long history of applying technical knowledge to solve important, real-world problems. Here, this proven approach is combined with integrated IGERT modules focused on development of professional skills, translational skills, and an innovative mind-set, all in the context of the IGERT fellows’ research project.
Faculty members from WPI's Life Science & Bioengineering Center and the School of Business collaborate to train IGERT fellows in core disciplinary course work, mentored discovery research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
