Reaching High 2013-2014

We currently have no Reaching High dates scheduled; please check back for future offerings.

Make a difference at WPI while exploring engineering.

Reaching High is a program for women who are sophomores and juniors in high school. The program is an opportunity to explore engineering and the engineering design process while working with a real customer from the Worcester community. See how engineers can change lives by providing solutions to many of life’s challenging problems.

High school women work in teams of 5 to 8 with WPI undergraduate women to complete a service learning engineering design project for a non-profit organization in Worcester. Potential projects include:

  • Creating an all Persons-Accessible Water Programs for Broad Meadow Brook Wildlife Sanctuary
  • Design and Construction of a Mobile Donation Unit for ReStore
  • Working with Habitat for Humanity to Improve Homes for People with Disabilities

Participants and undergraduate mentors meet approximately 4-5 times throughout the course of the academic year to visit project sponsors and complete their project. Students are asked to commit to at least 30 hours of participation.

There is no charge for this program, however students are expected to provide their own transportation to and from the WPI campus.

We are looking for a creative, innovative group of young women who want to explore engineering and make a difference while they are doing it. Prior knowledge of engineering is not required.

Registration for the Reaching High program is now closed.  Please check back for additional dates in the future.
