2010 Award Recipient

Karen Tegan Padir '90, '95 (MBA)

Karen Tegan Padir, you are a model for continuing your commitment to WPI as an alumna, having earned your undergraduate degree in computer science, and then an MBA in 1995.

As a member of the WPI Board of Trustees, you have made meaningful contributions to the development of your alma mater. You have contributed your knowledge and expertise to the board's Academic Planning, Advancement, Nominations, and Technology committees. WPI has also benefited from your participation on the Management Executive Council Advisory Board.

Your distinguished career also brings pride to your alma mater. You began as a software engineer at Stratus Computer and have spent the past 20 years leading global business and engineering organizations. At Sun Microsystems, you were one of the founding members of Sun's Java EE Platform and an advocate for the open source development model. Your talent and expertise quickly earned you leadership roles at Sun, where you served as vice president of MySQL and software infrastructure, and at Red Hat, where you served as vice president of engineering for infrastructure technology. Today, as vice president for products and marketing at EnterpriseDB, you are responsible for all aspects of product delivery, from product management and engineering, to training, services, and support, as well as global marketing initiatives.

Through your career, you live the WPI ideals of theory and practice. As a WPI trustee, you put those same leadership and problem-solving skills to work to benefit your alma mater. We are grateful for all you do on behalf of WPI, and we are proud to recognize you today with the John Boynton Young Alumni Award for Service to WPI.
