On April 1, 2015, over two hundred and fifty people gathered for the Annual Scholarship Dinner Program in the Campus Center Odeum to celebrate the philanthropy of scholarship donors and the accomplishments of their scholarship recipients. The program included remarks from President Laurie Leshin, scholarship donor John Gabranski ’75, former scholarship recipient Jody Terranova ’98 and current scholarship recipient Tina Dutra ’15.
President Leshin greets the crowd with a campus update and a glimpse of the stories of some of the extraordinary scholarship recipients. Featured in President Leshin’s remarks were Erin Esco ’17, a recipient of the Class of 1957 Excellence Scholarship and a Computer Science major who was able to attend WPI despite hardship, and Lukas Hunker ’16, a recipient of the McGee Family Global Scholarship and an Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science double major who was able to do an IQP in Wellington, New Zealand as a result of his scholarship.
Former scholarship recipient and current scholarship donor John Gabranski ’75, speaks on what his scholarship meant to him as a student at WPI and his decision to establish the Adam and Agnes Gabranski Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of his parents.
Jody Terranova ’98 gives remarks on how receiving the Harry Feldman Scholarship, funded by Robert A. Foise ’56, as a student at WPI changed her life. Jody speaks about how her donor’s generosity allowed her to impact others and pay it forward as a pediatrician, assistant professor of pediatric medicine at UConn Health and as a deputy mayor of Windsor, CT.
Tina Dutra ’15, a Mechanical Engineering major, speaks about how the Heald Brothers Scholarship allowed her to receive a world class education and embody the Third Tower of WPI, Impact. Tina gives remarks about how she currently impacts others as the chair of the Senior Class Gift Committee and in the future as a Project Engineer for parts on space missions to Mars.
