Mathematical Sciences Department
Assistant Professor
Position Description: The department seeks candidates in areas that both enhance existing departmental strengths in pure and applied analysis, computational mathematics, applied statistics and discrete mathematics and contribute to institute-wide goals for growth in biological sciences, environmental sciences and climate, and energy research. Examples of specializations of particular interest to us include computational modeling of environmental phenomena, partial differential equations applied to biological phenomena, and discrete models for networks in phylogenetics and/or energy delivery.
The Mathematical Sciences Department has 24 tenured/tenure-track faculty and supports BS, MS, and Ph.D. programs in applied, financial and industrial mathematics and applied statistics (see http://www.wpi.edu/+math).
U.S. News and World Report consistently ranks WPI among the top national universities and recently placed WPI in its top 30 for faculty resources.
Requirements: An earned Ph.D. or equivalent degree is required. Successful candidates must be able to contribute strongly to both the department's research activities and its innovative, project-based educational programs.
