WPI Names New Counseling Center Head

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Student Life Office recently announced the appointment of Thomas J. Balistrieri of Millbury, Mass., as director of the Counseling and Student Development Center. He replaces Richard Halstead, who accepted a teaching position at Saint Joseph's College.
Balistrieri earned a B.S. in sociology/social welfare at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, an M.A. in counseling at Pacific Lutheran University and an Ed.D. in counseling at Mississippi State University. He comes to WPI from the University of Minnesota, Morris, where he had been director of student counseling since 1992. From 1991-92, Balistrieri had a private counseling practice in Warner, N.H., and before that was director of counseling and career services at New England College in Henniker, N.H., a management development consultant and a career counselor. He has received numerous honors and awards for Passage, a development model that assists students in the transition from youth to adulthood.
