WORCESTER, Mass. - Sharon C. Davis of Boylston, Mass., WPI's director of alumni affairs since 1989, will step down from that position on July 1 to become major gifts officer for the upcoming WPI campaign. In her new post Davis will work with potential contributors to support the five-year capital campaign, scheduled to begin in the spring of 1998. She will relocate from Higgins House to Boynton Hall and will continue to report to John Heyl, vice president for university relations.

A New York native, Davis earned a bachelor's and a master's degree in history at the State University of New York at Albany. She came to WPI in 1978 as assistant director of the Alumni Fund. She was managing director of the fund from 1981 to 1984, when she became director of development at Worcester's Bancroft School. She returned to campus in 1989 as director of alumni affairs.

During Davis' tenure, the Alumni Association established its new alumni online service Alumni Gateway, established the Class Boards of Directors, implemented a new Master Plan, incorporated the WPI Venture Forum into the association, established the Alumni Career Network, published a new alumni directory, revitalized the Student Alumni Society, built the Centennial Walkway to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the association's incorporation, and reinstituted the Goat's Head rivalry.

"It has been a great privilege to serve the Alumni Association during the past seven years, and I am looking forward to working with alumni in a new capacity this summer," says Davis. "Collaborating with alumni in a myriad of interesting assignments has been incredibly rewarding, and the resulting friendships have made the job a joy."
