Violence in the Workplace Conference Planned at WPI on Oct. 25

Worcester, Mass. -- A conference on Violence in the Workplace that will analyze the issues surrounding workplace violence, discuss solutions and develop strategies to prevent and diffuse the problem will be held at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) on Friday, Oct. 25. The day-long conference will be held at Founder's Hall on the WPI campus beginning at 8:30 a.m. and lasting until 5 p.m.
The morning session will feature a presentation highlighting the realities of workplace violence by Polaroid Corporation and how an organization struggled to overcome and manage the problem. There will be a response from academic, business and human service communities. Martin Breinlinger, ombudsman for Polaroid Corporation, will be the presenter.
The afternoon sessions will cover Conflict Resolution Skills in the Workplace, moderated by Carol Balderelli, director of the Community Mediation Center; An Examination of Conflict Management Styles in the Workplace, moderated by Jim DiReda, employee assistance consultant, Health Management Systems; and Human Resource Department Roles in the Intervention and Prevention of Workplace Violence, moderated by Professor David Siddle of Assumption College. Conference sponsors are the Colleges of Worcester Consortium, The Center for the Study of Alternatives to Violence, and the Clark University COPACE MSPC Program.
