In 1977, WPI established the Office of Continuing Education (OCE) to provide training programs for business and technical professionals in Massachusetts. Since that time, OCE has delivered more than 3,200 training programs to 52,000 men and women worldwide. On Tuesday, June 16, at 6 p.m., the University will mark the 20th anniversary of the OCE with a reception and dinner in Founders Hall. The event will also honor the 159 individuals from 66 companies who have graduated from its Professional Development Certificate programs.
To fulfill its mission of serving the lifelong learning needs of adults and organizations through the development of world-class professional development programs in management and technology, OCE now offers public seminars, customized corporate training, hands-on information technology programs, faculty short courses, and the ISO 9000 Partnership. Classes meet on the WPI campus in Worcester, at branch campuses in Westborough and Waltham, and at corporate sites throughout the United States and abroad.
"This is a time of rapid change in training and education," says OCE Director Arlene R. Lowenstein, who will give the welcome address on June 16. "As we look ahead we see very exciting opportunities for adult learners at WPI. We are fully committed to developing and presenting the world-class training programs that business and industry have come to expect from us."
