WPI's Metal Processing Institute Holds Spring Symposium, May 28, at WPI Campus

WPI's Metal Processing Institute, an industry-university alliance, will conduct its Spring Symposium on Thursday, May 28, at WPI's Fuller Laboratories. The key topic to be addressed by the membership of more than 50 corporate partners will be global benchmarking of innovation and technology commercialization in the metalcasting industry. More than 100 are expected to attend.
Leading metal industry authorities from around the world will address the symposium. Sergio Gallo, former chairman of Teksid of Italy, will be the opening speaker followed by Reiner Kopp of the Aachen Technical University who will give a German perspective. Speaking from China will be Yaohe Zhou of the Northwestern Polytechnic University. Rod Esdaile of the Australian Trade Commission will speak on Australia resources, research and results, while Claude Job and Sylvain Jacob will present the French perspective.
Paul Mikkola, director of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering at General Motors, will present a case study - Transferring Technology From Inception through Production. Gunnar Halvorsen of Elkem Aluminum, Norway, and Lars Arnberg of the Norwegian Institute of Science and Technology, will talk on Applications of Microstructure Modeling in Product Development.
The program begins at 8 a.m. and continues until 4:30 p.m.
