Spirit Week: Sunday, Sept. 27-Thursday, Sept. 30
WPI students will have numerous opportunities to get together for relaxation and fun during Spirit Week, Sept. 27- Oct. 1. Highlights of the week, which will usher in Homecoming on Friday, Oct. 2, include a volleyball tournament (noon -5 p.m., Sunday), a barbecue (4:30 -6 p.m., Sunday), Twister (8-10 p.m., Monday) , a DJ social (9-11 p.m., Tuesday), and wacky olympics (5-10 p.m., Wednesday).
Tony D'Angelo, executive director of EmPower X! will present a leadership program from 6 p.m. to midnight on Sunday, Sept. 27, in Alden Memorial. D"Angelo, who has been hailed by CNN as the "personal development guru of Generation X," is the author of The College Blue Book and one of the co-creators of the upcoming Chicken Soup for the College Soul.
Homecoming, Friday, Oct. 2 and Saturday, Oct. 3
Homecoming starts with the Physical Education and Athletic Department's annual Hall of Fame reception and dinner from 6 to 9:30 p.m. in Alden Memorial. At 7 p.m., there will be a pep rally and the men's soccer team will kick off against Clark. The evening concludes with Goat's Head Pub Night, featuring a live band, in Riley Commons. Doors open at 8 p.m.
Saturday is brimming with activities for all ages, including the annual Frank Sannella Road Race (9:30 a.m., Alumni Field); volleyball vs. Assumption (10 a.m.); crew alumni races and cookout (10 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Donahue Boathouse, Lake Quinsigamond); football vs. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point (1:30 p.m.); freshman-sophomore rope pull (Institute Park immediately following the game), and Glee Club Concert (5-7 p.m., Alden Memorial).
A Homecoming Carnival featuring midway games, music, a Moonbounce, and live entertainment will be held on the Quad from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Homecoming will conclude with the comedy of Stephen Wright from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in Harrington Auditorium.
