Fitzgerald Elected Fellow at Society of Fire Protection Engineers Convention

Worcester, Mass. -- Robert W. Fitzgerald of Worcester, Mass. , professor of civil and environmental engineering and fire protection engineering at WPI, was elected a fellow and honored at the Society of Fire Protection Engineers 50th Anniversary Awards and Honors Banquet on May 14 in Denver. Becoming a fellow is one of the highest honors bestowed on a member.
"This is a well-earned and long-overdue recognition of Bob's many contributions to the profession and the program at WPI," says David Lucht, director of the WPI Center for Firesafety Studies.
Fitzgerald began teaching at WPI in 1963 in civil engineering. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering for WPI and Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut in structural engineering. He is a former head of the civil engineering department at WPI.
Fitzgerald is a registered professional engineer in Massachusetts and a recognized authority in building firesafety design. He has published several books and workbooks including Mechanics of Materials and the Evaluation of Building Firesafety.
