WORCESTER, Mass. - July 29, 2002 - Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) announced a $10,000 contribution from Honeywell International Foundation of Morristown, NJ. The gift is intended to support scholarships for worthy fire protection engineering students and WPI's Fire Protection Engineering Distinguished Scholar Endowment.

In acknowledging the generous contribution, David A. Lucht, Professor and Director of WPI's Center for Firesafety Studies, noted that generous industry support has played an enormous role in the development of fire protection engineering studies at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Honeywell International has agreed to continue Pittway's commitment to the support and encouragement of young people interested in pursuing fire protection engineering careers on behalf of it's Fire Systems Companies (Fire-Lite Alarms, FCI, Silent Knight, and NOTIFIER) and System Sensor division. The company also actively supports co-op students and interns, giving them a chance to gain first-hand experience in the world of fire protection.

The third oldest private engineering college in the United States, Worcester Polytechnic Institute operates a distinctive program of post-graduate education in fire protection engineering, fire research and technology transfer. WPI offers the dual degree BS/MS master of science and doctoral degree programs in fire protection engineering.

As the newly formed Honeywell Fire Solutions Group, Fire-Lite Alarms, FCI, Silent Knight, NOTIFIER, and System Sensor continue to be worldwide leaders in the design, manufacture and distribution of fire alarm equipment and life safety products.
