October 26, 2001, Waltham and Southborough, MA -Worcester Polytechnic Institute's (WPI) Department of Continuing and Professional Education has debuted its Oracle Certificate Programs. The program has two tracks: Database Administration and Database Application Development. Classes are offered at WPI's Waltham and Southborough, MA campuses. A technical background is not required for admission to WPI's Oracle programs.

"Oracle is the largest supplier of database solutions worldwide, and the demand for trained Oracle professionals continues to outstrip the supply," said Clive Lee, Director of IT Training at WPI's Waltham Campus. "Unlike other Oracle programs, WPI's emphasis upon hands-on education and training allows our graduates to hit the ground running and become valued members of an IT team from the moment they are hired."

The two intensive tracks prepare students for jobs in the in-demand fields of Database Administration as well as Database Application and Development. After receiving a WPI Oracle certificate, graduates will be prepared to take Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) examinations, widely recognized as the standard in the IT industry.

In the Database Administration track, students are presented with realistic examples of failure and recovery and gain exposure to performance tuning and troubleshooting issues.

The Database Application Development track builds experience in data modeling, PL/SQL programming, Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports. Both tracks emphasize hands-on training, including building and configuring a database (Database Administration track) or completing an integrated Oracle application (Database Application Development track).

The programs run for 9 weeks full time or 28 weeks part time at WPI's branch campuses in Waltham (1 mile from Rte. 128) and Southborough (Rt. 9, near the junction of Rt. 495). Each student receives career advising and job search guidance. Financial assistance is also available for qualified students.

In addition to the Oracle Programs, WPI offers information technology training certificate programs in UNIX/C/C++ Programming, Client/Server Technology, and Web Technologies, which run 9 weeks full time or 28 weeks part time, as well as the Windows 2000 MCSE Certificate Program, which runs 20 weeks part time.

WPI's part-time options are a perfect fit for working professionals. Full-time day classes are also available.
