WPI to Celebrate FIRST Robotics Team's Victory, on April 25

The WPI community will come together at noon, on Wednesday, April 25, to celebrate its world-champion FIRST Robotics team. The team, from the Massachusetts Academy of Mathematics and Sciences at WPI, is sponsored by the university. The community will also cheer the return of the team’s award-winning robot, "Goat-Dactyl," from Atlanta, site of this year's FIRST championship. The robot will be demonstrated at the victory celebration, which will be held in the Campus Center Odeum.

The Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) community will come together to celebrate its world-champion FIRST Robotics team.  The team, from the Massachusetts Academy of Mathematics and Sciences at WPI,  is sponsored by the university. The community will also cheer the return of the team's award-winning robot, "Goat-Dactyl," from Atlanta, site of this year's FIRST championship. The robot will be demonstrated at the victory celebration.

 More than 100 WPI students were involved with the winning team, which walked away with the championship trophy at the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Championship in the Georgia Dome on Saturday, April 14. The WPI/Mass Academy team, Team 190, captained the championship alliance, which also included teams from Connecticut and Nevada.

The WPI/Mass Academy victory was the climax to months of competition involving more than 1,300 teams from the United States and six other nations. FIRST is a not-for-profit founded by Dean Kamen, a WPI alumnus and the renowned inventor of the Segway Human Transporter. In all, more than 10,000 students from 23 countries competed in the Atlanta event, which also included FIRST LEGO League and FIRST VEX Challenge world championships.
