High School Students From Throughout Central Massachusetts Will Compete for Thousands of Dollars in Awards and Prizes

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) will host the 56th Worcester Regional Science & Engineering Fair. This is one of six regional science fairs that culminate in the annual Massachusetts State High School Science & Engineering Fair. The event will take place on Friday, March 11, 2011.

As they have for more than a half century, senior high school students from throughout Central Massachusetts have put their minds to developing research-based science projects and will now compete for several thousand dollars in awards and prizes. Local scientists, engineers, and medical professionals will volunteer as judges for the competition, and the event is sponsored by local clubs, businesses, colleges, corporations, professional organizations, and individuals.

In addition to the competition, Jonathan Fitch, general manager of the Mass.-based Princeton Mutual Light Department will deliver a talk entitled "Princeton's Community-owned Wind Farm Project."

The fair takes place from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Campus Center Odeum. It is open to the public from 1:30 to 4:45 p.m., and judging takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The awards ceremony starts at 5 p.m., and will be held in Alden Memorial.
