Innovative, Impactful and Purposeful Graduate Research Will Be On Display at WPI's Innovation Exchange

Set for 8 to 5 p.m. on March 19 in the Rubin Campus Center.

What

Graduate Research Achievement Day (GRAD): The Innovation Exchange is a showcase for the work of graduate students at Worcester Polytechnic Institute's (WPI) who are engaged in research. Master's and PhD candidates at will fill the upper level of the Rubin Campus Center, eager to share the results of their work in engineering, science, the life sciences and bioengineering, business, and the social sciences.

In colorful posters, they will describe ongoing research on intelligent tutors that help young students learn science and math, smarter and more sustainable building materials, stronger and lighter metals, mobile apps that promote healthy lifestyles, work on regenerative medicine and tissue engineering that may help heal and rejuvenate the body, and innovations that will help robots be companions for the elderly or respond to serious disasters, among many other areas.

More than 220 master's and PhD candidates will participate.

• 8 a.m. to noon: posters in business and social science, the life sciences and bioengineering, science, and interdisciplinary areas.

• 1 to 5 p.m.: posters in all engineering fields.

Rubin Campus Center Odeum, on the campus of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 100 Institute Road, Worcester, Mass.

More Information

Up to 60 posters will be selected by judges as finalists. They will be on display again in the Rubin Campus Center Odeum from 1 to 3 p.m. on April 14, when judges will select several for awards and cash prizes.

This is the first of two annual events that celebrate research and discovery on the WPI campus. The second is i3: Investing in Ideas with Impact, a research presentation competition that encourages graduate students to think and communicate like entrepreneurs. They make short pitches that explain their ideas and innovations could become the foundation for new products, new commercially valuable processes, or new companies.

The i3 finals will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. on April 14 in the Odeum, following the GRAD poster finals.
