2012 University Lecture Features EMC Distinguished Engineer Patricia Florissi Speaking on Big Data’s Societal Impact
The event starts at 5 p.m. on Nov. 5 in Alden Memorial.
Patricia G. S. Florissi, Vice President and Global Chief Technology Officer, EMC Sales.
Patricia Florissi will discuss Big Data — a new era of scientific enlightenment and social revolution. In her talk, Florissi will discuss how technology and the availability of scientific and social data are enabling and accelerating discoveries in science, and transforming the way we work and live.
In this new era of Big Data, Florissi expects that we will see changes similar to the ones that occurred during the Industrial Revolution — with some industries ceasing to exist, new ones being created, and others reinventing themselves.
Monday, November 5, from 5 to 6 p.m. There will be a reception immediately following the program.
Alden Memorial, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 100 Institute Road, Worcester, Mass.
This lecture is free and open to the public.
Sponsored by the Office of the President, the University Lecture Series provides a forum for speakers of national and international importance to enhance scholarly and scientific learning and to stimulate the intellectual climate of the university and surrounding communities.
