WPI Achieves Its Highest Ranking to Date; Based on Academic Quality and Affordability
Kiplinger's Personal Finance has once again included Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) on its list of the country's best values in private colleges. WPI is ranked 27th among all private colleges nationwide. This marks WPI's highest Kiplinger's ranking to date.
Kiplinger's annual list ranks 100 private universities and 100 liberal arts colleges. The top 50 colleges and top 50 universities appear in Kiplinger's December issue.
According to Kiplinger's the schools included in the 2013-14 lists represent the colleges that provide high-quality academics at a reasonable cost. The ranked colleges also exemplify the attributes parents and students look for in higher education, including small class sizes, a good freshman retention rate, and a high four-year graduation rate.
"Kiplinger's list of the best private colleges has become a recognized and respected resource for families researching the best value in college education," said Janet Bodnar, editor of Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine. "The schools on this year's list offer students both academic excellence and affordability, which is increasingly important in this challenging economic landscape."
Many schools, including WPI, have appeared on the list multiple times. WPI was ranked 56th last year.
WPI was one of 12 Massachusetts colleges on the list of private universities in the most recent edition. WPI was ranked fifth among Bay State Colleges, after Harvard University, MIT, Tufts University, and Boston College.
Kristin Tichenor, senior vice president at WPI, was pleased with the honor. "Our goal is to provide students with a high-value, high-impact educational experience," said Tichenor. "The true measure of our success is how well our graduates do in the workplace. Their high level of achievement underscores the effectiveness of WPI's collaborative, project-based academic program."
