WPI's 146th Commencement Exercises

May 17, 2014

The Commencement Exercises were held outdoors on the Quad, under a tent that accomodated all of our graduates and many of our guests.

For generations during the spring, a time tested ritual has taken place on the WPI Quadrangle -- on this special day, some 1000 men and women, bedecked in black robes and mortarboards, march across Earle Bridge to the Quadrangle, where they receive their hard-earned degrees from WPI's president. It is a time for looking forward to lives and careers that wait just beyond the horizon, and to cherish the memories of accomplishments, friendships, and events that have come before.

On this site, you may turn your gaze to the past, to learn about the history of Commencement at WPI, which stretches all the way back to 1871 when the university sent the 16 young men of its very first graduating class out into the world, or look at our 146th Commencement Ceremony, which occured on Saturday, May 17, 2014.

The Baccalaureate Ceremony, which occured on Friday, May 16th in Alden Memorial, is an annual program planned by seniors, in which graduating seniors give speeches and musical performances that reflect on their experiences as WPI students.
