Commencement News Release Form

Following commencement, the WPI Marketing and Communications Division will send a news release (consisting of only directory information) to the hometown newspaper(s) of each graduate.

NOTE: Releases are sent unless graduates have checked the confidentiality flag in Banner, indicating that they wish their directory information to remain confidential. Students who have checked the confidentiality flag, but still want to have their graduation information sent to their hometown newspapers, should contact the Registrar's Office.

Local editors may or may not use your graduation news. Some save commencement stories from many colleges and print them together, sometimes several weeks later. You may wish to check with your paper(s) regarding their policy.

Information for Commencement News Release

The following information will be included in your Commencement news release:

  • Graduate name and hometown
  • Degree type
  • Major(s) or field
  • Honors (bachelor's degree recipients only)

Your Photo

Marketing and Communications is unable to transmit your photo along with your Commencement news release. You are free to send your photo to your local papers and request that it be run with your news item. Please note, however, that many newspapers do not run photos with graduation stories.

ADDITIONAL TOWNS

We will send your news release to the newspapers that cover the hometown listed for you in the Registrar's database. Should you like news of your graduation sent to media in additional towns, you will need to contact those papers yourself. Marketing and Communications can supply you with a WPI Commencement news release template to use for this purpose.
