WPI offers the Federal Form 1098-T electronically (paperless) for eligible students. To opt-in to the paperless 1098-T, please go to ECSI. For students who do not opt for an electronic (paperless) 1098-T, the forms are mailed by the IRS deadline each January.
Some benefits of opting in to the electronic copy are:
- Online delivery provides access to the Form 1098-T earlier than the traditional mailing process.
- Online delivery eliminates the chance that the 1098-T will get lost, misdirected, or delayed during delivery, or misplaced once the student receives it.
- Signing up for online delivery is easy and secure.
- Students can receive their Form 1098-T even while traveling, or on assignment away from their home address.
WPI reports total charges assessed by calendar year, not semester, per the IRS regulations. We do not include any payments made by the family, or loan disbursements, on the 1098-T. WPI may also exclude a form for those students not eligible, e.g. scholarship amounts exceed total tuition. If you do not receive a form and request one you must provide your SSN/ITIN in order for us to create a form for you.
You are required by U.S. Code 26 § 6109 to furnish your SSN/ITIN so it may be included on an information return (1098-T). If you fail to furnish your correct SSN or ITIN to WPI, you are subject to a penalty of $50.00 by the IRS. (See 26 U.S. Code § 6723 for more information on failure to comply).
If you have not submitted your SSN/ITIN, please print a form W-9S to submit your Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). Please remit to the Bursar's Office. Due to sensitive information, this form may not be emailed.
Employees of the Bursar’s Office are not able to assist in questions related to your specific eligibility and/or use of the form. We will only answer questions regarding what has been reported on the form.
