Transfers

Welcome to the Office of Academic Advising at WPI. We are here to help make your transition to WPI as seamless as possible by helping you choose your courses and by connecting you with various campus resources.

Once you are formally offered admission to WPI, the Admissions Office will begin evaluating your transfer credit. You will be notified of the credits that transfer after you are offered admission to the institution. At that time, you should contact the Office of Academic Advising to schedule a meeting to review your transfer credits and course schedule.

Fall and spring transfer students are invited to Transfer Student Orientation (TSO) in July and January. If you are admitted to WPI in the fall semester, you will be invited to New Student Orientation in August, where you will meet your Insight team. This team consists of a Faculty Advisor, Resident Advisor and a Community Advisor, and is a support system for you while you transition into WPI. This Faculty Advisor will help you navigate the WPI curriculum in A and B terms of your first year at WPI. Then, when you declare a major, you will be assigned a new Faculty Advisor. This Advisor will be a member of the faculty in your desired area of study. As an expert in the field, he or she will help you with course selection, and career or graduate school preparation. If you are admitted to WPI in the spring, you will work with the Office of Academic Advising to choose your courses for your first semester.

As a transfer student, it is important that you get involved in the WPI community when you arrive on campus. With a number of campus clubs and organizations, you are likely able to find a student group with whom you share interests. You can also learn about student groups at the organization fair in September.

Transfer students are also encouraged to meet with the Career Development Center (CDC) to discuss career planning, internships, resumes, and other questions you may have about employment and graduate studies.

The Office of Academic Advising is here to help you successfully transition into WPI. We encourage you to seek out various campus resources to help you meet your academic, professional, and personal goals. If you have any questions please feel free to contact our office for assistance.
